A STORY
Dancing in Harmony
Welcome to Ocular Arts and our galleries with various forms of visual art. Our aim is showing the works of talented known and unknown artists, working in different media, and giving them the broad exposure they may not have been able to gain on their own. We offer their prints and original works to you and know you will find something you will like.
I'M JOE VITTEK
My mother was a painter, and my brother is an artist in stained glass. I dabbled in both before discovering the magic of digital imaging. My interest in photography started when I was a child and matured through high school. But then college, job, career and family left no money or time for a personal darkroom, so I pursued other interests for more than 30 years. Then, before my first trip to Hawaii, I purchased a digital camera to record our family adventure and I was hooked. I never could draw but, with the camera and computer, I could create the pictures that had eluded me before.
I begin each work with one or more digital photographs and then I blend, filter and tone until the picture that I want emerges. The work is then printed on materials that the buyer selects.
My mother, toward the end of her career, succeeded in capturing the realism of the photograph with her brushes. I attempt to capture the feeling of the brushes with my images. I hope you enjoy seeing these images as much as I enjoy producing them.

I'M KARLA SACHI
I’m Karla Sachi, formerly Karla Conway. I have been an award-winning artist since the ‘80s, after a career as Playboy magazine’s first surfer girl centerfold a Playboy Bunny at several locations and as an actor in Hollywood movies. My art career began in the early ‘80s when I created whimsical, soft “life sculptures” that were carried by Circus Circus in Las Vegas and New York toy retailer FAO Schwartz. My 30-inch soft-sculpture likeness of Hugh Hefner was featured in the December ’82 issue of Playboy. I have lived in Hawai‘i on and off since 1977, By now, I have created more than 1200 paintings and soft sculptures. I have painted a wealth of subjects in watercolor, mixed media and oil on canvas. Currently, I depict marine life, scenic coastlines, picturesque grazing livestock and hula practitioners inspired by my life in Hawaii. I am particular fond of Hawaiian sea turtles and Koi Ponds. My works are currently showing at Genesis Galleries Hawaii at Queens’ MarketPlace and at Aesthetic Hawaii by Genesis Galleries at Kings’ Shops, both in Waikoloa on The Big Island of Hawai’i. My online works are offered through this site, OcularArts.com.

The only endeavor I have ever been passionate about is creating
visual art. Drawing, painting, wood carving, mixed media all seduced
me. But always survival managed to trump personal art. Fortunately, I
was able to focus that passion on a satisfying career as a fashion
illustrator, graphic designer and creative director. After forty-plus
years in retail and direct mail advertising, I decided to chase the
fantasy.
First I fulfilled my lifelong dream of moving to Hawaii. Where else
but on the Big Island of Hawaii can you be blessed daily with an
abundance of natural beauty. So here I am, living the fantasy in the
mountains of Kona, being surrounded by Ohia forest, gazing out on the
blue Pacific ocean. Free to create for myself and hopefully inspiring
others to dream
